• Obituary: The Evening News, 30 Aug 1838, Sault Ste. Marie, Chippewa, Michigan, United States. Frank Payment, 68, well known in local marine circles for many years as a boat builder, died at the Memorial hospital this morning August 30, 1938, at 4:14, after an illness of about six weeks. Mr. Payment, who retired from boat building to take up farming at McCarron about eight years ago, had not been in good health for about a year. Death was result of complications, following Several operations. Many of the boats, motor and steam, tug types, built by Mr. Payment when he was in business alone and when he was in business with his father, the late F.X.Payment, are still in use on the Great Lakes. The former boat builder, born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan is survived by his wife; seven sons; Elie; and Fred of Barbeau; Thomas; Russell; Clifford; and Oliver of the Sault; and Lloyd of Detroit; and three daughters Mrs. John Maleport; Mrs. Arthur Stevens; of the Sault; and Mrs Calvin Hyslop of Marlett, Michigan. There are 54 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Mr. Payment was a member of St. Mary's Church. The body take to Beaumier Funeral Home, was to be removed to the home of Russell Payment, 1800 Seymour Street, this afternoon. The Rosary will be recited at the home at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 8:45 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Msgr. Raymond G. Jacques will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
