James P Hoy, a resident of this city for about 45 years passed away at his home at 705 W. Mill Street sometime between Sunday night and Monday Morning. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Norvell who occupy rooms in the Hoy residence, noticed a light in Mr. Hoy's room at 8:30 in the morning, and when he failed to answer, they entered the room and found him in a chair, where he apparently sat down before preparing to retire the night before. Although he had been ailing Mr. Hoy had been up and about and his death was evidently caused by a heart attack. He was aged 77 years, 10 months and 7 days.
James P Hoy was born at LaSalle, Ill. on February 29, 1864. He worked in coal mines in various states in this part of the country, and in 1890 he was united in marriage to Miss Evelyn Hoey, of Canal Fulton, Ohio. In 1897 they came to Staunton to reside. Mr. Hoy being employed as electrician at Mine No. 1 of the Mt. Olive & Staunton coal co., until it was closed and then was transferred to Mine No. 2 where he worked until about a year ago, when he retired. His wife passed away on Sept 5, 1920 and a daughter Loretta also preceded him in death.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed, pending arrival of a daughter and a son from California, but it is probalbe that services will be held saturday.
surviving him are two daughters Mrs. Frances Busciolano of Hollywood, Calif., and Mrs. Genevieve Kelso of Massillon, Ohio; one son, Sherman Hoy of Hollywood, Calif., also other more distant relatives and host of friends.
Uncle Jim Hoy ws a kindly gentleman who spent his entire life in trying to make life's pathway more pleasant for his family and friends. for many years he served as secretary of the local Moose Lodge. He devoted much time to the task, and received much commendation from the lodge officers. He Recently was again elected secretay of the lodge, and served in that capacity, when death called him. His passing was a severe shock to all who knew him and loved him, and his kindly influence will be greatly missed.


James married Evalyn Marie HOY [2126] [MRIN: 4092], daughter of James Patrick HOY [320] and Mary Jane McMURPHY [329], in February 1892 in , Ohio, West Virginia, United States.
