  General Notes:

Cecil was born on the old family homestead 8 miles north of Elsie, Michigan in section 36, Hamilton Township, Gratiot County, Michigan. After he married he lived 3 miles east of Ashley, Michigan where his children were born. His first wife Jennie died when his daughter Sandra Jane was born on 2 Sept 1936 and Cecil took Sandra Jane over to his brother Chester who raised her as one of their very own. After his wife Jennie died he moved nearer and just north of Elsie, Michigan. He later married Ellen Hoy Hammond (his brother Emerson's wife) and they continued to live at Elsie for a number of years and later moved to Burr Oak, Michigan.

Elmer Courser at The Carter Funeral Home, was born in Gratiot County 5 Feb. 1903, The son of Frank and Levina Hammond. His entire life was spent in the Elsie area until he moved to Burr Oak three years ago. He married Ellen J. Hoy in Jan. 1937 and was a former employee of The Redmond Co. in Owosso. Surviving him are: his wife, four sons, Richard of Saginaw, Gerald and Donald of Bannister, and Lee of Burr Oak; two daughters, Mrs. Nadine Adamec of Owosso and Mrs. Jane Westphall of Gaylord; 26 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one sister; and six brothers; Frank and Ollie of Olivet, Lester of Calif., Chester of Elsie, Christy of Chapin and Charles of Greenville.

Clinton County News of St. Johns, Thurs. 1 June 1967, Page 7a, As Follows Elsie-Funeral Services for Cecil Hammond, Age 64, of 132 Mill St., Burr Oak, Mi., were held Monday (29 May) at The Carter Funeral Home. A former Elsie resident, he died in Sturgis Memorial Hospital following several years of ill health. He had resided in the Elsie area all his life until moving to Burr Oak three years ago. Burial was in Ford Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Ellen; two daughters, Mrs. Nadine Adamec of Owosso and Mrs. Jane Westphal of Gaylord, four sons, Richard of Saginaw, Gerald and Donald of Bannister, and Lee Of Burr Oak; 26 grand-children, and seven brothers, Frank and Ollie of Olivet; Lester of Calif., Chester of Elsie, Christie of Chapin, and Charles of Greenville.

Per Clinton County marriage record vol.-i, p-269 on 7 Jan 1939 at Duplain Twp. Cecil Hammond, 36, residing r#2 Elsie, MI, born Gratiot County, is a laborer, father was Frank Hammond and mother was Lavina Fuller, married once before, and Ellen June Hoy Hammond, 28, residing r#2 Elsie, MI, born Saginaw County, father was Harry Hoy and mother was Minnie Shepherd, married once before. The witnesses were Harold Berline and Mrs. I.A. Fisher both of Elsie.

Per newspaper notice: A quiet wedding occurred at the home of Rev. and Mrs. I.A. Fisher, Saturday evening at seven o'clock, when Cecil Hammond of Elsie and Mrs. Ellen J. Hammond also of Elsie, were united in marriage. The ring service was read by Rev. Fisher. Mr. and Mrs. Hammond will reside on the farm north of Elsie and have the best wishes of their many friends.
