Knight of Thorpe Waterville, Northamptonshire, of Broughton Parva in Bierton, Buckinghamshire, of Upholland and Orrell in Wigan, Hale in Childwall, Haydock in Winwick, Nether Kellet and Samlesbury, Lancashire. Of Yoxall, Staffordshire. Guardian of Garendon Abbey.
Son and Heir of Robert de Holand and Maud la Zouche. Husband of Elizabeth, thought to be an illegitiamte daughter of Guillame III, le Bon, Count of Hainhault (Holland). They had four sons and one possible daughter; Robert, Thomas, Gilbert, a cleric, Sir John and Margaret.
As a reward for his services in Scotland, Robert was awarded Chelveston, Northamptonshire in 1333. In 1340 he received a lease for life from his brother, Thomas de Hoaldn, the manor of Horden, Durham. He accompanied Thomas de Beauchamp in the wars of France, the King in 1347, and assisted Sir John Dalton in the abduction of a wealthy widow, Margery de la Beche from her home at Beaumes at Reading, Berkshire. Robert was summoned to Parliament from 1363 to his death in 1373.
