  General Notes:

Basina probably came from the Thuringian people, perhaps from their royal family. The historian Gregory of Tours, followed by the Fredegar Chronicle and the Liber historiae Francorum, reports that her first marriage was to Bisinus, King of the Thuringians. In Thuringia she got to know Childerich, who was there in exile after his deposition. After eight years of exile, Childerich was recalled and reinstated as king by his people. Then Basina left her husband and went to Childerich on the grounds that he was the bravest man she knew, so she wanted to connect with him. Then he happily took her as his wife.

This legendary tale is viewed with skepticism by scholars, especially since Bisinus ruled in the early 6th century, while Childerich died in 482. The Thuringian origin of Basina is accepted.

Basina or Basine (c. 438 \endash 477) was remembered as a queen of Thuringia in the middle of the fifth century, according to much later authors such as Gregory of Tours. However, because he described this kingdom as being on the Gaulish side of the river Rhine, it is sometimes thought to be the Civitas Tungrorum.

She left her husband, King Bisinus and went to Roman Gaul. She herself took the initiative to ask for the hand of Childeric I, king of the Franks, and married him. For as she herself said, "I want to have the most powerful man in the world, even if I have to cross the ocean for him". This remark of hers may have been related to Childeric's successful invasion of the Roman Empire and his attempt to settle a Frankish kingdom on Roman soil.

She is the mother of the man who is remembered as the founder of the Frankish realm and modern France. She and her husband Childeric named their son Chlodovech, but he is better remembered under his Latinized name, Clovis I.

According to the Gesta episcoporum Cameracensium, King Ragnachar and his brother Richar, from the area of Cambrai were related to Basina.

In 463, Basina married Childeric I, son of Merovech and his wife, and had the following children:

Basina or Basine (c. 438 \endash 477) was a queen of Thuringia in the middle of the fifth century.

Biography
She left her husband, king Bisinus and went to Roman Gaul. She herself took the initiative to ask for the hand of Childeric I, king of the Franks, and married him. For as she herself said, "I want to have the most powerful man in the world, even if I have to cross the ocean for him".[1] This remark of hers may have been related to Childeric's successful invasion of the Roman Empire and his attempt to settle a Frankish kingdom on Roman soil.

She is the mother of the man who is remembered as the founder of the Frankish realm and modern France. She and her husband Childeric named their son Chlodovech, but he is better remembered under his Latinized name, Clovis I. King Childeric's maternal grandparents were the same as Basina's paternal grandparents- they both shared their grandfather Clovis of Cologne of the Riparian Franks (399-448).

Through the ages historians have been intrigued by the story of Basina since she obviously acted as a player and not as bystander \emdash which is not uncommon for women of the German clans, but highly uncommon for the Romans.
