  General Notes:

Lady Poppa (Popa) de Bayeaux de Rennes was the beautiful daughter of Monsieur Le Comte, Lord Sir Bérengar (Bérenger) II de Bayeaux de Rennes, Le Comte de Rennes. Lady Poppa became the second wife of His Grace, Lord Rollo Rognvaldsson, de Normandie (Normandy). The Viking Chieftain, who had been elevated and granted the Norman aristocratic noble titles, estates, and powerful positions as 1) Le Comte de Rouen, and 2) The Duke of Normandy, the Sovereign Ruler of The Duchy of Normandy. His Grace, Rollo The Duke of Normandy had defeated the Franks in Paris and in Rouen, France. He had seized The Castle of St. Cler for his homestead in his new country. When Rollo met Lady Poppa de Bayeaux in the middle of a raid, he was besotted. As per Viking cultural traditions of the time, Lady Poppa was captured and claimed by His Grace, Lord Rollo, I Rognvaldsson, The Duke of Normandy, as his new wife. Lady Poppa de Bayeaux de Rennes became La Comtesse de Rouen and Her Grace, la Duchesse de Normandie when she married His Grace, Lord Sir Rollo, the 1st Duc de Normandie. Mother of William and Adela. Rollo and Poppa's son, William (Guillaume) is also known as His Grace, Lord Sir William "Longsword" de Normandie, The 2nd Duke of Normandy. Their daughter, Adela (née Gerloc or Geirling) became Her Grace, Lady Adela de Normandie D'Aquitaine, La Duchesse D'Aquitaine when she married. Their Graces, Duchess Poppa de Bayeaux and Duke Rollo de Normandie are the ancestral, many times Great Grandparents of William, The Conqueror, The Duke of Normandy, who became HM King William I Of England on Christmas Day of 1066, shortly after William The Conqueror and his Companion Norman Noble Warriors and Army defeated England's Anglo-Saxon King Harold at the Battle of Hastings in October 1066. Poppa of Bayeux (French: [p?pa d(?) b?jř]; born c. 880) was the wife more danico[2][3] of the Viking leader Rollo. She was the mother of William I Longsword, Gerloc[4][5] and grandmother of Richard the Fearless, who forged the Duchy of Normandy into a great fief of medieval France.[6] Dudo of Saint-Quentin, in his panegyric of the Norman dukes, describes her as the daughter of a "Count Berengar", the dominant prince of that region, who was captured at Bayeux by Rollo in 885 or 889, shortly after the siege of Paris.[7]: 417 This has led to speculation that she was the daughter of Berengar II of Neustria.[8]: 96 [9]

There are different opinions among medieval genealogy experts about Poppa's family. Christian Settipani says her parents were Guy de Senlis and Cunegundis, the daughter of Pepin, Count of Vermandois, and sister of Herbert I, Count of Vermandois.[1] Katherine Keats-Rohan states she was the daughter of Berengar II of Neustria by Adelind, whose father was Henry, Margrave of the Franks, or Adela of Vermandois.[2] Her parentage is uncertain and may have been invented after the fact to legitimize her son's lineage, as many of the fantastic genealogical claims made by Dudo were. Based on her separate more danico status that differentiates her from Rollo's Christian wife Gisela of France, Poppa's family was unlikely to have been powerful Christian nobility who would have insisted\emdash by force if necessary\emdash on a legal and monogamous Christian marriage for their daughter.

Poppa was likely a common woman taken from a country with which the Norse had trade contact.[10]

A statue of Poppa stands at the Place de Gaulle in Bayeux.[8]: 235

Poppa married Rollo RÖGNVALDSSON of Normandy, son of Ragnvald 'The Wise' EYSTEINSSON Jarl av Mřre and Countess Ragnhild HRÓLFSDÓTTIR.
