According to the obituary of her step-mother, Mary Dunn Pennington, Melinda missed the funeral (October 1925). She was "in a Detroit hospital where she went under an operation a few days ago." (she might have miscarried. Most of her children were born three years apart. This was approximately three years since the birth of Clark. Beverly wasn't born for another three years.)

Pickford native, Melinda Hunter, of Sault Ste. Marie, died Sunday, January 7, in Northern Michigan Hospitals in Petosky. She was 94.
Mrs. Hunter was born December 19, 1895, in Pickford. She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Reuben, died in 1957.
Survivors include two sons, Clark of Brimley, and Charles of Highland; five daughters, Pauline McCulligh of Ashtown, Arkansas, Beverly Sibbald and Shirley Maleport of Sault Ste. Marie, Donna May Martyn of Bloomfield Hills, and Marilyn Fredrick of Hastings, Minnesota; three half-brothers, Howard and Harvey Pennington of Pickford, and John Pennington of Westland; a half-sister, Doris Holton of Dearborn; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, January 10, at Hovie Funeral Home, Sault Ste. Marie, with Reverend John C. Huhtala, Sr., officiating, and burial in Donaldson Cemetery.
