Bernice Patricia Maleport of Sault Ste. Marie died on Friday January 8, 1999 at her son's home. She was born January 17, 1929 in Brimley. Bernice lived in Brimley at the Piche Farm with her large family until August 16, 1947, when she married her husband of 50 years, Kenneth J. Maleport. In 1977 they moved to Blytheville, Ark., where she met and made many friends, then returned to the Sault in 1988. She enjoyed playing bingo, having breakfast with her friends at McDonald's and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was a member of the Brimley VFW and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sault Ste. Marie. She is survived by her sons; Melvin (Paula) Maleport; Randy (Debbie) Maleport; Rick (Peggy) Maleport; and son-in-law Jerry McDonald. Other survivors include; grandchildren: Jerry (Deanna) McDonald; Tracey (Steve) Holt; Kenny (Tonia) McDonald; Marcie, T.J. and Billy Maleport; Eric and Lindsay Maleport; Tina Berry and Michelle Maleport and great-grandchildren: Renee and Jarrett McDonald; Alyssa, Jenna and Craig Holt. Four brothers also survive: Frank (Pauline) Piche of Arizona; Archie (Grace) Piche of Brimley; Bill (Marie) Piche of Sault Ste. Marie; A;(Ivy) Piche of Florida. Five surviving sisters are: Margaret (Leonard) Bell of Sault Ste. Marie; Pauline Sparr of Livonia; Irene Deuman of Brimley; Leona Deuman of Pontiac and Marion Snider of Sault Ste. Marie. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth J. Maleport, her daughter, Janice McDonald and her brother, Tom Piche. Visitation will be on Monday, January 11, 1999 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Clark's Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home. Prayers will be at 9 p.m. Funeral Mass is on Tuesday, January 12, 1999 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sault Ste. Marie. Fr. Pawel Mecwel, Fr. Don Shiroda and Deacon William Piche will officiate. Memorial donations made to the Hospice of Chippewa County or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
