4. Death Record: 18 December 1909, Sandfield, Manitoulin, Ontario, Canada.

5. Her obituary was published in The Recorder on 6 January 1910 in Gore Bay, Manitoulin, Ontario, Canada. MARGARET MITCHELL

Sandfield

There passes away on Dec. 18 at the residence of her son one of Manitoulins first settlers. Thirty eight years ago Mrs. Mitchell came to the island accompanied by her husband and a family of eight children, and settled on a farm near Manitowaning. In 1880 her husband died and for the remaining twenty nine years she made her home with her son, Andrew although for many years was able to visit her sons and daughters, who had left the Island and were living in Michigan. Always pleasant, bright and cheery she made many friends and many outside of the family spoke of her as "Grandma" for to each and all she spoke kindly and of them she spoke no ill. For many a long day will her sunny presence be missed by her relatives and friends. During the summer she was unusually smart for a person of eighty six years and always ready to converse on almost any subject. In October she became ill, then bedfast and slowly sank to rest after a great deal of patient suffering, although all that medical aid and kind nursing could do was done for her. She leaves a family of five girls and two boys to mourn her loss, besides forty two grand children and nineteen great grand children among whom only two children, her son Andrew and Mrs. McKoy of Manitowaning and four grand children were able to attend the funeral. She was laid to rest in Hilly Grove cemetery, Rev. Mr. Scott conducting the service at the house and Rev. S. Cunningham at the grave. To her many friends and relatives we extend our sincerest sympathy in this their hour of sorrow.
