Biography
Sir John Cambrun inherited the estate of Baledgarno in the parish of Inchture in the Carse of Gowrie. He was probably the son of Robert Cambrun who was granted Baledgarno by King William.

On 3 Mar 1233/34 John Cambrun attested a charter of Alan Durward. He was a witness to a charter of King Alexander II dated at the Abbey of Scone on 11 July 1234 which was an excambion involving the lands in Longforgan in the Carse of Gowrie and fishing rights in the Thanage of Scone.

He married and had issue:
1.) Robert his heir

2.) Christina who married Sir Alexander de Inchmartine

In May 1237, an agreement was reached over a dispute between the Abbot and Convent of Scone on one part and David Hay over teinds of their adjacent lands at Durdie when ta settlement was agreed that a ditch should be dug on the boundary the decreet was witnessed by the Bishop of Dunkeld. the Abbot of Coupar Angus, Lord John Hay, Andrew the parson of Inchture, Henry of Abernyte and John Cameron. Baledgarno lies between Abernyte and Inchture and many others.

Holding Baledgarno in the Carse of Gowrie it was not surprising that he associated with the local families of Hay, Inchmartine and Inchyra. At Forfar, on 18 April 1241, John witnessed the Charter of King Alexander confirming the donation of William de Haya to the Abbey of Coupar Angus of land in the Carse of Gowrie.

About 1250 he was among the witnesses of a charter of David de Hastings, earl of Atholl. He joined John of Hastings and Gilbert de Haya about 1252 when witnessing a charter of Alan, usher of the king of Scotland when granting the davachs of Clintlaw and Balcashie in Lintrathen to Coupar Abbey.

When his neighbour Roger son of Baudrie granted to Coupar Abbey a bovate of his land in the Carse of Gowrie in 1252, John Cambrun witnessed the charter along with brothers Gilbert and William de Haya.

When his daughter Christina married Alexander de Inchmartine, Sir John Cambrun granted them the lands of Murthly.

About 1260 he and his son-in-law witnessed a charter by John de Inchyra, granting to Sir Gilbert de Haya and his heirs or their assignees all right and lordship in the land of Rosinclerache.

Likewise after the death of John de Inchyra, both Sir Robert and Sir Alexander of Inchmartine witnessed a charter of David the brother to the deceased John of Inchyra.

At a pleading before the jucticiar of Perth on 13 October 1260 Falletauch appeared personally against Thomas of Liddel, attorney of the lord prior of St Andrews, and quitclaimed all right that he had in the land of Drumcarro to St Andrews Priory. This was done in the presence of Sir Freskin Moray, Sir David Lochore, Sir John Cambrun, deputies of Alexander Comyn, earl of Buchan, justiciar of Scotland.

John Cambrun was principal witness described as Sheriff of Perth when on 28 May 1264 Alan the usher granted lands in the parish of Airlie at Reedie to Coupar Abbey. That same year he was auditor of the Exchequer and sheriff of Perth and was mentioned as Sheriff of Perth in 1266.

At Dunkeld on 5 Mar 1270/71 John was joined by his son-in-law Alexander de Inchmartine when with others they witnessed a writ of Nichols, abbot of Scone. regarding the lands of Lour, near Forfar.

He was succeeded by his son Sir Robert.
